Puma June Sets the Melancholic Tone with “Love Comes & Goes”

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Puma June perfectly pulls together mind, body, and soul for this emotive track.

Canadian artist Puma June is a jack of all trades—or should I say, a “June” of all trades? She’s a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and producer who effortlessly blurs genre lines. While she describes her sound as alternative R&B, her music also pulls from pop, jazz, and hip-hop, creating something both nostalgic and refreshingly new.

Since debuting in late 2022, Puma June has been steadily carving out her place in music, and on March 7, 2025, she finally delivered her first EP, A Woman That They Want. She’s cited artists like Billie Eilish and Stevie Wonder as influences, but what really sets her apart is how she uses her voice to tackle important themes—from women’s empowerment to gender issues to familial trauma.

One of the most striking songs on the 7-track project is Track 5, “Love Comes & Goes.” This emotional ballad dives deep into women’s bodies, health, and the passage of time. With its soft piano melody, the track creates space for Puma June’s vocals to truly shine. She delivers soulful vulnerability as she opens up about her personal struggles and fears of loneliness—especially how women’s self-worth is often tied to youth and beauty.

One of the most powerful moments in the song? The mention of a woman struggling with infertility. It’s a gut punch—a raw, deep gasp kind of moment.

I’ll be honest—this isn’t necessarily my usual style of music. But even so, I deeply respect the depth and emotional weight Puma June brings to the track. With open ears and an open heart, I think “Love Comes & Goes” can help listeners develop more compassion for the female experience.
