REASON puts up a spirited performance in “Porches.”

TOP 5

5. Family First! (Ft. Kalaan.Frfr, SiR & Zacari)

A TDE all-star game.

“Family First!” is the sole track on this album where REASON takes a backseat. Fueled by a smooth, piano-driven beat, the featured guests—Kalaan.Frfr, SiR, and Zacari—artists known for their infectious melodies, shine brightly. This aligns perfectly with the song’s theme of promoting your fellow brothers and demonstrating unwavering loyalty towards them.

Yo, why haven’t I listened to Kalaan.Frfr’s music more? This dude is nice!

4. Send You 2 The Afterlife!

This song is appropriately titled. REASON kills everything in it.

TDE artists are undefeated when it comes to drowsy, borderline Three Six Mafia-inspired beats, and REASON proves that in “Send You 2 The Afterlife.” The way he switches his flow effortlessly and talks about the difference between savers and takers in this song is amazing to listen to. Only if this s**t had a music video…

Only if this s**t featured Isaiah Rashad…

3. You Betta (Jesus Take The Wheel)

Lil b*tch, you betta!

REASON finally has some fun in “You Betta (Jesus Take The Wheel).” Throughout the bouncy track, he raps with a serious pep to his step as he tries to convince what I am assuming is a baddie to get some stress off him.

This song could go crazy in clubs. I like its energy a lot.

2. Gina (August Alsina)

Who would’ve guessed a track dedicated to August Alsina would be the hardest on this album?

What we’re not going to do is glorify August Alsina. I have a wife, and if someone tries to steal her, I’m giving them a two-piece with a side of biscuits and a medium coke. With that being said, “Gina (August Alsina)” stands out as one of the standout tracks on this project. Featuring a beat switch, beats that knock harder than Karens, a robust hook, and lyrics that skillfully balance between braggadocio and playful tones, this song unquestionably brings the heat.

1. Poster Child!

I love outros like “Poster Child!”

Many artists don’t wrap up their albums with something that truly ignites anticipation for their upcoming projects. Consider this: Just like in movies with anticipated sequels, where they leave you wanting more, musicians could do the same. With that in mind, “Poster Child!” serves as a masterful conclusion to Porches. In this song, you witness the most intense and concentrated iteration of REASON as he vividly recounts his struggles, unwavering commitment to excellence, and the narratives that have shaped his present actions. It’s the perfect introduction on an outro.

RGM RATING

(B)

One of the captivating aspects of TDE artists is their ability to immerse you completely in their world through their albums. REASON accomplishes this masterfully in Porches. The Californian artist’s world is a tapestry of fast cars, fast women, fake friends, real friends, and an unwavering aspiration for greatness. While these themes resonate with many of us, it’s the clarity, emotional detachment, and undeniable skill with which REASON articulates these experiences that set him apart. With that said, individuals who aren’t deeply engaged with his perspectives might find parts of the album less captivating; some songs sort of drag along, boasting chill production and rap tones that are a little on the bland side. However, if you find yourself resonating with his experiences, you’ll undoubtedly connect with the album’s profound impact.
