Neil Young Documentary Set to Release this April

Coastal: A behind-the-scenes journey directed by Daryl Hannah.

Neil Young, a legendary icon frequently mentioned on this site, has a long history with film, dating back to his 1973 documentary Journey Through the Past. Now, filmmaker and actor Daryl Hannah, who is also Young’s wife, alongside producer Gary Ward, is set to release a new documentary titled Coastal. The film offers an intimate look at Young’s 2023 West Coast tour. “It’s going to be the first time I play in front of anybody in almost four years. I’m petrified,” Young admits in a clip from the trailer.

The film originally premiered at the Woodstock Film Festival last year and features exclusive clips and behind-the-scenes footage of Neil Young’s long-awaited return to the stage after the pandemic. Coastal is set to hit select theaters on April 17, followed by a companion soundtrack album. Given Young’s extensive catalog and enduring influence, it’s no surprise he remains the subject of so many documentaries, and he deserves every single one.
