BNYX & Lil Yachty Link Up For “Smoking in The Rain”

Rating: 2 out of 5.

BNYX has been linking up with some rebellious jits these past few months.

2023 was such a rough year that I was ready to crown Lil Yachty as MVP—and to be fair, he absolutely earned that level of recognition. He spent the year experimenting, delivering everything from lyrical miracle bangers to alternative rock vibes. This year, Yachty has remained just as active, but one artist has clearly run away with the crown: Kendrick Lamar. That said, as Yachty wraps up yet another impressive year, he’s dropping “Smoking In The Rain” alongside BNYX, a fitting finale to his dynamic run.

In “SMOKING IN THE RAIN,” Lil Yachty casually mentions sipping on lean, having unique powers, rocking diamonds, and stacking so much money that it’s basically chump change to him. In other words, he makes all of us listeners feel bad about ourselves.

I wouldn’t be surprised if someone told me the beat for this track came from the same lab that created The Terminator. It’s got this glitchy, trippy, futuristic vibe. Lil Yachty matches the energy with a robotic, slightly whiny rap style that toes the line between annoying and tolerable. Overall, I’m not rushing to revisit this track anytime soon.

Why are artists getting away with making tracks like this?
